Abstract: | Wireless mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are multihop infrastructureless wireless networks, where nodes can move arbitrarily and setup a temporary network. Diverse approaches and protocols have been proposed from academic and industry laboratories, accompanied with standardization efforts from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). However, the large and successful deployment of ad hoc networks is not yet achieved mainly due to the multi-hop, unreliable nature and the lack of fixed infrastructure on wireless mobile ad hoc networks. In the context of the present thesis we propose a novel transport protocol, namely Ad hoc Multi-Path Transport protocol (AMPT) tailored for mobile wireless ad hoc networks in combination with multi-path routing. Additionally, we plan to conduct a quantitative comparison of multi-path routing protocols, a performance study of alternative data dissemination methods over multi-path routing protocols and finally implement the developed AMPT protocol demonstrating the applicability of the protocol in a large-scale user test-bed. |
