Title: An Evolvable Network Architecture for Embedded Devices
Year: 2009
Month: August
Pub-Key: kel09a
Abstract: Future networks will be heterogeneous in devices and func- tionality and will require dynamic adaptability in order to provide a protocol stack that is suitable for the actual net- work environment. This thesis evolves around such an ar- chitecture. The networking functionality is no longer orga- nized in a static protocol stack; it is rather split into modules that can be combined into a protocol graph. At runtime this protocol graph can be adapted through selective combina- tion of the modules. Our aim is to provide a system on chip (SoC) implementation of this architecture and to develop an algorithm that determines at runtime which modules should be executed in hardware and which in software. Such an implementation is best suited to the energy constraints and security requirements of future mobile devices.
