Workshop Location


The two Workshops will take place at ETH Zürich in Zürich, Switzerland. Their premisis are located in Zürich downtown and easily reachable by plane, train, and streetcars (cf. directions below). See the end of the Visitor Information for a description how to reach the conference location.

The utilized lecture hall is located in the Electrical Engineerings building (ETZ and ETF building) at Gloriastrasse 35, see figure below.

 


Workshop Directions


This section is provided for your convenience to learn how to get to the Workshop site of QofIS'02/ICQT'02 in downtown Zürich.

From Zürich Airport

Please make sure that you already have swissfranks, if you know that you will arrive after 10.00pm local time.

By Taxi

The easiest and most comfortable way to the Workshop site is to take a cab.
Ask the driver to take you to the Gloriastrasse 35 in Zürich.
This will cost you about CHF 40,- (taxicabs are fairly expensive in Zürich).

By Train

The less expensive way for about CHF 8,- is to take the train to Zürich central railroad station. Trains leave every 15 to 20 minutes and take about 10 minutes to get you to Zürich main station.

Train schedules from the airport to the city: Type as departure "Zurich Airport" and as destination "Zurich" and add your dates and times as necessary.

Within the Airport follow the signs to the underground train station to get to the railway station of the airport. The train station is located three storeys underground in the same building you arrived.
Please make sure that you have a valid ticket before taking the last stairs down to the platforms. Tickets can be bought at the ticket shop (English speaking personnel) or at the ticketing machine. Enter the code 8000 at the ticketing machine.
The train will lead you to Zürich railroad station. If you plan to take the tram (streetcar) at the railroad station you will not have to buy an additional ticket there. The ticket for the train is also valid for the trams.

From Zürich Main Railroad Station

By Taxi

This will cost you about CHF 20,- (cabs are fairly expensive in Zürich).

By Tram (Streetcar)

Follow the signs at the railroad station to get to the tram stop. The trams in Zürich are assigned a unique number and color. Those two lines that will take you to the Conference site are numbered 6 (light brown colour) with destination "Zoo" and number 10 (light red colour) with destination "Bahnhof Örlikon". Take one of these trams until the stop ETH/Universitässpital for both routes or stop "Voltastrasse" for route 6 - this is the most convenient stop, 60 m away from the Workshop's location of Gloriastrasse 35. This is where you get off. The tram ride will take about 6-8 minutes.
Please make sure that you have a valid ticket. They can be obtained at the ticketing machine ticketing machine. You will not need to buy an additional ticket if you got to the railroad station by train.

 

Ticketing Machines

To use the ticketing machine you need Swiss change and/or 20.- CHF banknotes (only possible at the Airport or the Central Station).
Use the machine as follows:
  1. From Zürich airport (ZRH): Enter the code 8000 (for Zürich)
    From Zürich main station: Press the yellow button labeled Kurzstrecke.
  2. The display shows the price for a 2nd class single-way ticket.
    To switch between 1st and 2nd class by pressing the 1.KL. button. This is only important, if you intend to use the train, there is no difference between first and second class for the trams.
    To switch between single-way to two-way ticket using the <-> button. A two-way ticket for trams is valid for 24 hours and, therefore, called a Tageskarte.
  3. Insert the money, the machine will drop the ticket and, if necessary, the exchange in the slot in the left corner.
Tickets are valid for the entire public transport network between the zone(s) encompassing the origin and the destination place.
Single-way tickets are valid for two hours and two-way tickets are valid for 24 hours.
